Be conscious of the food you put into your mouth. I had a client that didn’t realize it was certain food color additives
that triggered her rash. For other people, it can be specific food groups such as nuts, milk products or an allergy to wheat. There may also be factors that aren’t ingested but are in contact with the body that can trigger an eczema relapse. For instance, caustic ingredients in cleaners, certain detergents or over the counter bathing products can be hard for someone with sensitive skin to tolerate.
Forgetting to moisturize the skin can be something that prompts a dermatitis relapse as a consequence. Rubbing the skin too hard with a wash cloth or irritating it with abrasive clothing that scratches the skin can stimulate another rash. After people’s eczema clears up they often go back to taking very hot showers again. This is a mistake and it is best to stay with the lukewarm showers and sacrifice the enjoyment of a hot shower. It’s also easy to forget to drink water frequently and to give in to scratching the skin with one’s nails. Practice good habits to keep your skin clear. It is worth giving up some small pleasures for longer lasting comfort.
