May I Know if Exfoliation Can Help to Lighten the Dark Marks on My Elbows?

I have many dark marks left on my elbows due to pimples on my elbows after leaning too much on them. After the pimples were gone, they left dark marks. I have tried lemon to bleach but it is of no use. May I know if exfoliation helps? Thanks.
